The Leavers Service was one of the best ones yet…I’m not quite sure how we’ll top it next year? What made it special was all of you, as Miss Hastings said what a year it had been! I’ve added the videos below for you all to watch over and over again! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do (tissues ready…)
Hi all, I hope you are having a fantastic break and getting ready for your new chapter at High School. It seems a lifetime ago since we had MiMi in teaching us the moves for our flash mob dance which, we performed at the Leavers Service. So, in case you’ve forgotten the moves watch the video below and I’m sure it will all come flooding back!
Next week we will be taking 47 Year 6 children to Rock Uk in Newcastleton, just on the Scottish border. You are now able to follow us on Twitter @Class_6J_Laytonwhere you will be able to find what we have been doing each day.
Year 6 are busier than ever this week making and baking for their Enterprise week, which will end with a whole school cake bake on Friday and the summer fair on Saturday, where Year 6 have a stall. All proceeds will pay back money borrowed from the PTFA and any profit will go towards the end of year Summer Prom.
Mrs White approached year 6 with an idea of a gift or two to make…have a look below and see what it was…
Today we were split into 5 groups and each group given a different part of the Angry Birds clip to write as narrative for our audience – KS2 children. We were given:
Opening– (Descriptive writing about the happy opening, then describe what is happening in the distance.) Build up– (Descriptive writing about the egg – dialogue that the Pigs have, hatching their plan.) Problem– (Describe the fly landing on the egg and how they get rid of it. Dialogue of the birds when they realise the eggs are missing.) Resolution – (Describe the birds following the footprints and what they see when they reach the pigs. Think about dialogue between the Birds and the Pigs.) Ending– (Dialogue that the birds have between themselves as they hatch their plan to take revenge.)
We are then going to put each part of our narrative together and make a class story, since there are six children in each group we will have six stories. Once the stories are finished we will put them into Creative Book Builder.
Today, in Literacy, we thought about how the birds and pigs (from Angry Birds) were feeling/thinking when the pigs stole the birds eggs. We then put these into speech bubbles in a story board. Apple TV is a fantastic resource for this as we were able to use the Showme app on the mini iPads to share our work on the TV, support each other and edit/up-level our sentences by adding adverbial phrases, parenthetic clauses and language fit for purpose. For our next step in learning we then put the characters thoughts/feelings into dialogue – direct and indirect quotes. Next, we are going to put this dialogue into a story for KS2 thinking about our Audience, Purpose and Effect through using the features of narrative.
What do you like about our storyboards and sentences? What can we do to improve them?
We are gong to be using Angry Birdsas a stimulus for our work in Literacy, Maths, ICT, Art…I’d like you to think of genres that will fit in with this and ideas for other subjects. Be as creative as you can and add your ideas to Popplet below!
PLEASE – look at this weeks 100 word challenge prompt below, ‘…as the sun came out…’ type it onto your individual blog and let me know when you have finished. I wish the sun would come out! What a shocking start to the holidays!
Just a couple of reminders this week:

As part of our creative curriculum we will be investigating the seven wonders of the world. To start off, I would like you to think about what you thinkthe seven wonders of Blackpool are? Can you think of seven significant landmarks/buildings in Blackpool that deserve to be listed as the seven wonders. See how much information you can find out about each one and add your nominations to this post.
